Rajasthan is the desert state and is situated in the north-western part of India. It is the glittering jewel of India and is a delight of all kinds of tourists. Rajasthan is truly described as the Land of Kings and the Land of Monuments. The state was once a collection of princely kingdoms. The Aravali ranges divide the state through south-east and north-west. The north-west region of the state consists mostly of a series of sand dunes.

The royal state of Rajasthan is well known for its forts, palaces and combination of a variety of cultures. It is a prime destination of tourists from all over the world. The towns and cities of Rajasthan have rich cultural and traditional values. Rajasthan is replete with wonderful destinations, heritage spots, wildlife sanctuaries and colorful festivals. The state is a true tourist paradise and home to the most fascinating havelis and palaces and outstanding wildlife sanctuaries. Some of these are:

Forts of Rajasthan
Amer Fort: The Amer Fort in Jaipur is one of the finest examples of Rajput architecture. It was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592. The fort complex stands amidst wooden hills, with its forbidding ramparts reflected in the still waters of the Maota Lake below. One of the finest examples of Rajput architecture, it was the ancient capital of the Kachhawah rulers.

Chittorgarh Fort: This fort is one of the oldest forts in India. The walls of this massive fort narrate the tale of valor and romance.

Nahargarh Fort: Perched atop a picturesque hill, the Nahargarh Fort offers a breathtaking view of the city below. It was built by Sawai Jai Singh in 1734 AD.

Taragarh Fort: This fort is located near Kota and was built in the year 1354. It is accessible by a steep pitched road, leading to its main gateway.

Palaces and Havelis of Rajasthan
City Palace: The City Palace in Jaipur is an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal art and architecture. The complex houses several palatial structures.

Umaid Bhawan Palace: This palace in Jodhpur was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh, when a famine had struck the barren land of Jodhpur. He undertook this construction as a famine relief project to provide employment to the people.

Nathmalji-ki-Haveli: It is located in the gold city of Jaisalmer and is known for its excellent craftsmanship. This Rajasthani haveli was built in the 19th century by two architect brothers.

Temples of Rajasthan
Brahma Temple: Pushkar, one of the most famous pilgrim sites in the country, is home to the Brahma Temple. This is the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in the country.

Dargah Sharif: Ajmer Sharif is an important pilgrimage destination on Rajasthan for Muslims. It is the dargah of a Sufi saint Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti. Many pilgrims come here during the festival of Urs.

Dilwara Temple: Dilwara Temple is located in Mount Abu and was built in the 11th-13th century. This temple complex is an important centre for the Jains.

Govind Devji Temple: This is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Kishna. The idol was brought from Vrindavan and installed here by Sawai Jai Singh II.

Rajasthan, the famous state of India celebrates numerous fairs and festivals, which are the occasion for the people to rejoice. The various festivals of Rajasthan depict the cultures and traditions of the state. The festivals convert Rajasthan into a colorful land. The major festivals celebrated in this state are Pushkar Fair in Pushkar, Mewar Festival in Udaipur, Elephant Festival in Jaipur, Camel Festival in Bikaner, Desert Festival in the Thar Desert, Gangaur Festival and the Teej Festival.
